The Caribbean Sea conjures many images to the mind, pirates, rum, beautiful turquoise water, white sand beaches, etc. Another great image worth conjuring is that of perfect surf. Both the Greater and Lesser Antilles have good surf spots most of which only break in the winter months, but some islands get waves year round.
The Bahamas and the Greater Antilles make for good surf destinations. The Bahamas has some outer islands which get very good including Eleuthera, Abaco, and Rum Cay. The Greater Antilles includes islands with some of the best surf in the Caribbean including Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica which believe it or not gets some good waves.
The Lesser Antilles include some of the more pricey islands to visit, many of which have waves, but only a few that a surfer may want to visit. The Virgin Islands get some good waves as does Barbuda, Martinique, and Barbados.
Due to the quality of surf, warm water, and proximity to the East Coast of the United States, this is a favorite surf destination for U.S. East Coast surfers.
