Puerto Rico’s less popular neighbor, the Dominican Republic, offers a great experience for travelling surfers. A beautiful landscape with amazing coastal views, good reef and point breaks, warm water, and friendly people make this a fun trip. There is some crime and a lot of poverty so be careful. Drugs and prostitution are present and the prostitutes are known to steal things from their customers.
The waves can get big, particularly on the northern coast, but the south coast can get some swell too. Most surfers will want to visit the North Coast as there are lots of empty spots waiting to be ridden. There are also some very well-known spots that are excellent waves.
